IGL PhD Job Market Practice Series
A supportive space to prepare for the academic job market
Going on the academic job market can be both exciting and daunting. The IGL PhD Community is launching a new Job Market Practice Series to help PhD candidates prepare for the process. This series will provide a supportive, collaborative environment to practice job market talks and receive constructive feedback from members of the IGL research community and invited faculty.
Each session will be designed to simulate aspects of the academic job market while maintaining a low-stakes environment where candidates can experiment, ask questions, and improve their presentations.
What to expect:
- Practice your job market talk in a mock environment before going on the market.
- Receive constructive feedback on your research, presentation, positioning, and delivery.
- Learn from others by observing how other candidates present their work and how researchers respond to feedback.
- Build your feedback skills whether or not you are presenting.
- Connect with the IGL community and benefit from the experience of peers and researchers who have recently been on the job market.
We expect sessions to take place approximately every two weeks at 9:00am ET, with the exact schedule determined by the number and availability of participating candidates.
We have a particular interest in experimental research, but welcome submissions from candidates working across the broader innovation field, including management, strategy, entrepreneurship, economics, and related areas.
Who is it for?
The series is primarily intended for PhD candidates preparing to enter the academic job market this year. Candidates at other stages of their PhD may also be able to participate depending on space and the suitability of their paper.
We highly encourage other PhD students to attend the talks to provide feedback. Sessions may also include junior faculty and researchers who have recently been on the academic job market.
