Bo Cowgill

Bo Cowgill is an economist and strategy scholar at Columbia Business School whose research examines how digitization and organizational design shape innovation, productivity, and work. His studies use large-scale field experiments and data from firms to understand how internal labor markets, referrals, noncompete clauses, and AI systems influence mobility, competition, and inclusion. His work has appeared in Management Science, AEJ: Applied Economics, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Organization Science, and has been featured in the New York Times and Harvard Business Review. He is a CESifo Distinguished Affiliate, an IZA Research Fellow, and an Affiliate Fellow at the Stigler Center.
